چکیده

Species invasions contribute to global environmental change and cause declines in populations of threatened endangered species. Significant government funds are expended on invasive species management (ISM) actions each year. Public support compliance critical the success these actions. We conducted a study assess determinants general public’s for ISM identify potential barriers ISM. administered an online questionnaire public (n = 1,561) Florida, state severely affected by invasions. presented respondents with 12 different non-native animals from 4 taxa (birds, rodents, herpetofauna, fish) test whether their depended be managed or perceptions risk. utilized structural equation models explore how variables directly indirectly influenced Respondents tended oppose targeted towards birds charismatic Respondents’ government-implemented was positively correlated awareness risks associated general, consequences invasions, recognition importance taking mitigate invasion threats. Using Ontology Graphs to Understand Annotations and Reason about Them

Biomedical ontologies not only capture a wealth of biological knowledge but also provide a representational system to support the integration and retrieval of biological information. Various biomedical ontologies are used by model organism databases to annotate biological entities to the literature and have become an essential part of high throughput experiments and bioinformatics research. We ...

Using Drosophila to Understand Biochemical and Behavioral Responses to Exercise

The development of endurance exercise paradigms in Drosophila has facilitated study of genetic factors that control individual response to exercise. Recent work in Drosophila has demonstrated that activation of octopaminergic neurons is alone sufficient to confer exercise adaptations to sedentary flies. These results suggest that adrenergic activity is both necessary and sufficient to promote e...

Using Knowledge Representation to Understand Interactive Systems

System migration presents a myriad of challenges in software maintenance. The user interfaces of interactive systems can undergo significant change during migration. Program understanding techniques can be used to create abstract models of the user interface that can be used to generate a new user interface on the target platform. Using a knowledge representation to model the abstractions has t...
